About the show
The world is changing more rapidly than we ever thought possible. Technology and lifestyle solutions are our new normal; from the workplace to our social lives, how we monitor our wellbeing to how we raise our children. Whether it’s AI, wearable devices, superfoods or biotechnology, there’s rarely time for us to catch a breath before the next innovation is unveiled. But are we emotionally, physically and spiritually wired to thrive amidst such rapid change?
How Do We Manage? seeks to answer just that. Each week host Stephanie von Bismarck sits down with some of the world’s best thinkers, trailblazers and extraordinary people. They explore how to navigate some of life’s complexities and find a balance in this fast-moving world, without feeling overwhelmed and losing sight of what truly matters.
From the challenges of digital transformation to personal resilience, from sustainability to innovation. Across the series we’ll share practical tools and uncover inspiring ways to help us all keep up – and even thrive – while answering the simple question “How Do We Manage”.

In the year 2000 the UN Security Council launched Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security – the first commitment to recognise the importance of women’s roles in conflict prevention and resolution. But more than 25 years on how much progress have we made?
While the number of women at negotiation tables is going up, there is still a way to go.Fawzia Koofi is an Afghan politician, writer and activist. During her years in parliament she was a fervent activist for women’s rights and drafted the Elimination of Violence Against Women law. She was the first female Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the history of Afghanistan, and was a member of the Afghan delegation during peace talks with the Taliban in 2020. However since the Taliban took back power in 2021, being a woman in Afghanistan is extremely difficult, and Fawzia’s been living in exile in London watching from afar as the progress she made for women in her country is reversed.
In today’s episode Fawzia and Stephanie discuss what peace really means after a war has ended, the difference that women can make to peace negotiations, and why Afghanistan is currently one of the hardest places in the world to be a woman.
